Zwaarden Zeven – 7 of Swords

These are the difficult cards in the tarot – not difficult to read, their meaning is clear, but difficult to bear. Here, someone is sneaking in and stealing swords. However, two swords remain, you are not defenseless and possibly you didn’t really need all 7 of those swords, so perhaps with hindsight, you can see that it wasn’t all bad. But in the moment, you feel the searing heat of loss but worse than loss, the sense that things were purposefully/maliciously taken from you. You will feel betrayed or deceived.

In this card’s image, we see someone apparently sneaking away from an enemy camp, carrying five swords in his arms. He has one sword that’s actually his, and – oops! – in his haste to get away unnoticed, he’s dropped another one. While his intentions are good – he’s taking the swords so the enemy can’t fight – really, his actions are putting everyone involved at a disadvantage: the “enemy” can no longer take any action at all towards a solution, and in stealing the swords (and dropping one) our protagonist has been deceitful and will certainly be found out. While the conflict that started it all was unpleasant, the choice to be dishonest creates a new level of struggle, and one that can only be resolved through admitting the wrongdoing and returning agency to everyone involved – each needs their own sword. It is so important to consider every perspective when deciding on a course of action!

De Gehangene – The Hangman

This card depicts someone who is waiting. Waiting for a career promotion or a new job. In general, waiting to make a decision. This is a very slow moving energy.

The Hanged Man is a symbol for the turning points in life, showing up a need to stop and assess a situation. We’re hanging in the air until we find a new view of the things around us, a proper way to rearrange or restart.

Trust that this is a passage from one phase of your life to another.

If you are not sure what or who you need to give up, trust that things will resolve themselves over time and whatever the outcome it will ultimately be to your benefit.

The Hangman

The main lesson of the Hanged Man is that we “control” by letting go – we “win” by surrendering

Geliefden – The Lovers

Once the lovers card is in your spread, it means there is a choice you are having to make. Whether is staying on a job or leaving or waiting on a new position. There is some sort of choice you are having to make so you are in a waiting mode when you also get the hangman card on your spread.

This is the universe saying ‘yes, do it. Take that chance’

Take the leap. Don’t stay behind in something that you are not happy with. Because if you do take this new position. You are going to be happy there.

When the lovers cards is not about relationship and love reading it is about ‘choices‘. To feel guided towards this choice. And for a good reason. It is the universe saying ‘we had enough‘.

The Lovers – Los Enamorados

What Einstein and I have in common

No. I am not a genius nor a  Physicist or a mathematician. I remember the days of Princeton. I lived several years in Princeton, NJ and actually worked part-time at the Princeton University while studying and trying to start my professional career. I was young (20’s).

I remember how people in the area were so proud of speaking about Albert Einstein and visiting his home in Princeton (where Einstein’s had his office).

I visited and passed by his home many times as it was on my way to work. I was not impressed. I just thought he was just another guy the history happened to speak about. His home is now a museum and a pride to the city of Princeton.

So why do I feel I have something in common with Dr. Einstein?

The other night while watching the movie ‘Genious’ about Albert Einstein’s life story and his upbringing during the German war WWII and eventually his departure and arrival to the United States (Princeton, NJ professor), he did something I was not aware of.

At one point during the movie, Einstein received a letter in which he officially renounced his German citizenship and became stateless.

I am officially stateless.  Why would Einstein do that? His response was ‘because nationalism is a national disease. The measles of men kind.’

As I started my soul searching and spiritual path, several years ago,  I also thought about renouncing any so-called citizenship but soon came to find out, it is not as easy as it may appear. Filling up paperwork and paying the required fees (e.g. exit tax, etc) could be easier than actually living a life as a stateless person.  Especially now that all governments cared about is TAXes  (how to steal more money from their citizens) and terrorism (how to keep their citizens under control).

I respect him more than ever – a citizen of the world. Someone that believed in something and stood up for it by becoming a world citizen.

The mandate for the WORLD PASSPORT is Article 13(2) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights:

Everyone has the right to leave any country, including one’s own, and to return to one’s country.

Missing – Dedication to My First True Love

We never forget our first love. They just don’t leave us behind with pain but they enter our life to teach us something, to make us a better person and to help us grow next time love comes around.

To that person, I dedicate this song – our song. Lori Bulwith

And I miss you
Like the deserts miss the rain…

As hard as it is, there is an important karmic lesson to be learned from each relationship we experience in our lives. One must remember that every ending is a blessing in disguise, for there is always a new beginning that follows it. You will love again. Like they say. What you are looking for is looking for you!

To New Jersey with Love

This song brings me so many happy memories. Great friends and work colleagues I met along the way.  New Jersey was my home for many years- a big part of what has made me who I am.

As Alicia key sang ‘ Concrete jungle where dreams are made of
There’s nothing you can’t do
Now you’re in New York/New Jersey…

Salud – to those great memories.

Pentakels Vijf – 5 of Pentacles

You saw things in this relationship the way you wanted to see them and not how they actually were. Somebody was pulling the wolf over your eyes that you yourself didn’t want to see how they really were.

Someone kept things from you. You ultimate found out.

The snow on the ground symbolizes being left out in the cold. The feeling of being left outside alone. There are two people walking in front of the church and they don’t really see the pentacles in the background. They are kind of humbling through the snow with this feeling left out in the cold.

So perhaps that this person you cared about and who you trusted kept things from you and we cannot say it enough you felt ‘left outside in the cold’.

That feeling of ‘how can you do this to me?’ , ‘I am all alone’. Someone withholding information. You allowed this person to get away with too much.

Five of Pentacles tarot card denotes financial loss and hardship. It can also mean you feel there is no security.

Ceccoli Tarot version

Allowing the inconsiderate acts of others to make you feel small says a lot about how much value you place on yourself.

When you love someone in a soulmate connection kind of way, it almost seems out of this world.  The love that you feel for that person. Like nothing that you felt before. And sometimes, we do things we normally would not do, if it was just us on our own. Like that feeling makes you do things out of character or behave out of character. Intuitive you knew something was unraveling but didn’t stop it and let it happened.

Yvonne Koelemeijer

Using PROC UNIVARIATE to Validate Clinical Data

Using PROC UNIVARIATE to Validate Clinical Data

When your data isn’t clean, you need to locate the errors and validate them.  We can use SAS Procedures to determine whether or not the data is clean. Today, we will cover the PROC  UNIVARIATE procedure.

  • First step is to identify the errors in a raw data file. Usually, in our DMP, in the DVP/DVS section, we can identify what it is considered ‘clean’ or data errors.
    • Study your data
  • Then validate using PROC UNIVARIATE procedure.
  • Find extreme values

When you validate your data, you are looking for:

  • Missing values
  • Invalid values
  • Out-of-ranges values
  • Duplicate values

Previously, we used PROC FREQ to find missing/unique values. Today, we will use PROC UNIVARIATE which is useful for finding data outliers, which are data that falls outside expected values.

proc univariate data=labdata nextrobs=10;
var LBRESULT;
run;

Lab data result using Univariate

For validating data, you will be more interested in the last two tables from this report. The missing values table shows that the variable LBRESULT has 260 missing values. There are 457 observations. The extreme observations table can tell us the lowest and highest values (possible outliers) from our dataset. The nextrobs=10 specify the number of extreme observations to display on the report. To suppress it use nextrobs=0.

Using PROC FREQ to Validate Clinical Data

Using PROC FREQ to Validate Clinical Data

When your data isn’t clean, you need to locate the errors and validate them.  We can use SAS Procedures to determine whether or not the data is clean. Today, we will cover the PROC FREQ procedure.

  • First step is to identify the errors in a raw data file. Usually, in our DMP, in the DVP/DVS section, we can identify what it is considered ‘clean’ or data errors.
    • Study your data
  • Then validate using PROC FREQ procedure.
  • Spot distinct values

When you validate your data, you are looking for:

  • Missing values
  • Invalid values
  • Out-of-ranges values
  • Duplicate values

Previously, we used PROC PRINT to find missing/invalid values. Today, we will use PROC FREQ  to view a frequency table of the unique values for a variable. The TABLES statement in a PROC FREQ step specified which frequency tables to produce.

proc freq data=labdataranges nlevels;
table _all_ / noprint;
run;

So how many unique lab test do we have on our raw data file? We know that our sas data set has 12 records. The Levels column from this report,  the labtest=3 uniques. Which means, we must have 9 duplicates labtest in total. For this type of data [lab ranges] though, this is correct. We are using it as an example as you can check any type of data.

Proc Freq sas

Lab test data ranges

So remember, to view the distinct values for a variable, you use PROC FREQ that produces frequency tables (nway/one way) . You can view the frequency, percent, cumulative frequency, and cumulative percentage. With the NLEVELS options, PROC FREQ displays a table that provides the number of distinct values for each variable name in the table statement.

Example: SEX variable has the correct values F or M as expected; however, it is missing for two observations.

Using PROC PRINT to Validate Clinical Data

Using PROC PRINT to Validate Clinical Data

When your data isn’t clean, you need to locate the errors and validate them.  We can use SAS Procedures to determine whether or not the data is clean. Today, we will cover the PROC PRINT procedure.

  • First step is to identify the errors in a raw data file. Usually, in our DMP, in the DVP/DVS section, we can identify what it is considered ‘clean’ or data errors.
    • Study your data
  • Then validate using PROC PRINT procedure.
  • We will clean the data using data set steps with assignments and IF-THEN-ELSE statements.

When you validate your data, you are looking for:

  • Missing values
  • Invalid values
  • Out-of-ranges values
  • Duplicate values

In the example below, our lab data ranges table we find missing values. We also would like to update the lab test to UPPER case.

Clinical Raw data
Proc Print data val code
PROC PRINT output – data validation

From the screenshot above, our PROC PRINT program identified all missing / invalid values as per our specifications. We need to clean up 6 observations.

Cleaning Data Using Assignment Statements and If-Then-Else in SAS

We can use the data step to update the datasets/tables/domains when there is an invalid or missing data as per protocol requirements.

In our example, we have a lab data ranges for a study that has started but certain information is missing or invalid.

To convert our lab test in upper case, we will use an assignment statement. For the rest of the data cleaning, we will use IF statements.

Proc Print data cleaning

Data Validation and data cleaning final dataset

From our final dataset, we can verify that there are no missing values. We converted our labTest in uppercase and we updated the unit and  EffectiveEnddate to k/cumm and 31DEC2025 respectively.

You cannot use PROC PRINT to detect values that are not unique. We will do that in our next blog ‘Using PROC FREQ to Validate Clinical Data’. To find duplicates/remove duplicates, check out my previous post-Finding Duplicate data.

or use a proc sort data=<dataset> out=sorted nodupkey equals; by ID; run;
